If you missed Valentine's Weekend at our wineries, there's still time to enjoy chocolate and local wine pairings at two of our wineries this weekend and next.

Galen Glen -

Seduce your taste buds with a wine and chocolate adventure. The winery owners invite you to indulge in their Triple-Treat of three decadent chocolate truffles with a 3-ounce glass of wine for $3. Lancaster chocolatier, Steve Evans, has created more truffles with Galen Glen wine.

Tolino Vineyards -

Each weekend in February the winery is partnering with a different local chocolatier to offer a free chocolate and wine pairing with the purchase of a premier tasting. The winery also has free live music from 1 - 4 p.m. each Saturday.

Vino in the Valley

Also, just a reminder that Vino in the Valley online passport sales end next Friday 2/26. Supplies are getting low so place your order soon. Or stop by one of our wineries this weekend or next week and pick up your passport in person. (Note: Blue Mountain and Big Creek are sold out.)

Clover Hill Beginner Wine Tasting Class coming up later this month

Owner’s Selection Wine of the Month

For the month of January, Pinot Grigio is discounted 10% at all Clover Hill locations. Receive a 20% discount on Pinot Grigio when included in a case purchase.

Made in the Italian style, this wine expresses crisp fruit flavors and fresh acidity. The aroma is bright with citrus fruits; such as pink grapefruit and lemon. Pairs exceptionally well with steamed clams and mussels. Now only $12.14.

Recipe of the Month

Mint and Citrus White Wine Sangria

Ingredients:
~1 bottle Clover Hill Pinot Grigio
~1 lemon, thinly sliced
~1 lime, thinly sliced
~8-10 mint leaves
~2 Tbsp sugar

Prepare simple syrup by mixing 2 Tablespoons of sugar and 2 Tablespoons of water in a small dish and microwaving for 30-second increments until sugar is dissolved. Alternatively, prepare a large batch on the stovetop using a 1:1 sugar-water ratio and reserve for later use.

Once simple syrup is ready, add 1 Tablespoon to each wine glass. Then add mint leaves and stir/lightly muddle. Next add several slices each of lemon and lime.

Top off with wine and let set for a few minutes so the flavors can meld together. Top off with more wine and citrus as needed.

Pinnacle Ridge preps for Nouveau Weekend

LEHIGH VALLEY WINE TRAIL'S NOUVEAU WEEKEND

Saturday, November 17 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Sunday, November 18 from noon - 5 p.m.

This Lehigh Valley Wine Trail event celebrates the first vintage of the new harvest! Nouveau refers to a French wine which is created and sold the same year that the grapes are harvested. These wines are typically red, light in body, and fruity. Pinnacle Ridge will not be making a Nouveau wine this year, but we will be serving our Vidal Blanc and Merlot to be paired with another delectable creation by Chef Ben Underwood - cherry smoked pork and white bean soup.

Travel the Lehigh Valley Wine Trail the weekend before Thanksgiving for a fabulous opportunity to meet with friends and family before the holidays. This is also a great time to get a head start on your holiday gift shopping. March Madness 2013 passports will be going on sale Nouveau Weekend. These passports are great gifts for the holidays. Get them while they last because they sell out very quickly.

SUPERSTORM SANDY

It is a few weeks after Superstorm Sandy hit the region and we are glad to say we weathered the storm with little damage. We, like many others, were without power until late Friday. The tasting room was closed until Wednesday but we were able to obtain a generator to light the winery Thursday and Friday. There was a real romantic feel with the low lighting that was kind of nice.

That being said, there is nothing like that slight pop and burst of light when the power comes back on. Hopefully everyone made it through the worst of Sandy and are getting back into that normal routine one can appreciate after such events.

Mushroom Event
On January 14 and 15 we will be offering a pairing of mushroom tapas with wines. We haven’t finalized the menu yet but we will have several different tapas each paired with a different wine. This is a new event and should be a lot of fun. The event will run from noon until 5 p.m. on both days.

Great review for our 2010 Chardonnay
Vino Vic is a wine guy who has been making an effort to review Pennsylvania wines. Check out this link to see his review of our 2010 Chardonnay.

2011 Vintage Update
It was a strange year: extreme heat in July (105 degrees!) and extreme rain in August and September. One thing I’ve learned over the last 19 vintages is that there is no such thing as “normal.” The white wines have finished fermenting and are now settling down in tank and barrel. We can begin to see the results of our efforts with these young wines. Overall they are very balanced wines with moderate acidity. Usually in wet years we end up with high acids that result in very crisp white wines.

One of the unusual aspects of 2011 is that it was very, very warm. Even during the wet periods the temperatures were still above normal. The warm weather helps to promote the reduction of acid in the fruit resulting in balanced fruit and, consequently, balanced wines. The wines are not as intense as their 2010 counterparts but they do have fruit-driven aromas with flavors that follow. These whites will be delicious, young drinkers.

Nouveau Weekend is a great opportunity to purchase wine to give as holiday gifts or to complement holiday meals.

March Madness 2012 passports will go on sale this weekend. Passports are $35 each. A limited supply of passports is printed and often sells out well in advance of the month-long event, so event-goers are encouraged to purchase them early.
