Casting a Spell to End Hunger - Galen Glen Winery to hold food drive to help Shepherd House Food Pantry

On Saturday, October 26 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, October 27 from noon to 5 p.m., Galen Glen Winery will host Verhext Weekend. Verhext translates to bewitched in German. The Winery staff is asking, "Are you a good witch or a bad witch?" Are you like Elphaba Thropp or Glinda from the Wizzard of Oz? The winery's always bewitching, fun, and energetic staff will be offering a complimentary food pairing of Flying Monkey Muffins with our Witches Brew, Muller Time. We invite everyone to come to the winery and eat, drink and be scary while helping others.

During this weekend our staff wants to help our local food pantry, Shepherd House, which is an emergency pantry that provides three days of meals (including breakfast, lunch and dinner) to families in need in the following communities: Beaver Meadows, Jim Thorpe, Lehighton, Nesquehoning, Palmerton, Summit Hill, Tresckow, and Weatherly. Between December 2012 and May of 2013 Shepherd House served 16,944 people. The pantry operates on donations and grants and does not receive government funding. Per Director, Stanley Haupt, they are currently awaiting news on a grant from the PA Department of Agriculture.

Galen Glen Winery is asking everyone who visits the winery on October 26 and 27 to consider bringing donations of non-perishable food items (peanut butter, canned tuna and vegetables, pasta, etc.) or monetary gifts to help Shepherd House as they enter their most critical time of the year. For each family who brings donations, Galen Glen will offer a small thank you gift. Harvest is a time of abundant blessings, please help us bless Shepherd house!

Clover Hill Winery hosts a coat drive and holiday open house

Coat Drive for The Caring Place at Clover Hill Winery in Breinigsville
Monday, November 28 thru Sunday, December 4

So often we go to our closet and try to decide which coat we are going to wear for the day. Did you know there are many people, young and old, in our own back yards that do not have any coat to reach for to keep themselves warm?

Clover Hill be collecting gently used coats of any size (from babies to adults) to be donated to The Caring Place in Allentown. Last year The Caring Place supplied over 2,000 coats to those in need, so let's work together to replenish their stock.

The Caring Place is a youth development center that reaches out to youths in the Lehigh Valley who may be facing adversity. It enables young people to overcome the pressures and disadvantages of their environment.

For your donation of a coat, Clover Hill will offer you a toasty warm 10% discount on your wine purchase (20% on case purchases) throughout this week of giving.

Plus, not new to Clover Hill but new to our Breinigsville location will be Lori Savidge of Lorilee Baskets. Lori has been weaving very beautiful and unique baskets for about 20 years.

We will also feature a new holiday punch which we will sample and sell by the glass. There will be a featured wine of the day for which Clover Hill will donate $1 of every bottle sold to the Mason Shaffer Foundation.
